How to Download and Install Apps
Apps add new features to your phone. Whether you want to video call family, check the weather, or play games, this guide will show you exactly how to download apps safely.
Before You Start
Connect to WiFi - Downloading apps uses internet data. WiFi is faster and free.
Know your password - You may need your Apple ID (iPhone) or Google account password.
Have enough space - Most apps are small, but your phone needs room. Delete old photos if needed.
On iPhone: Using the App Store
Find the App Store
Look for the blue icon with a white "A" made of pencils. It's usually on your home screen.
Search for the App
Tap the Search tab at the bottom. Type the app name you want (like "WhatsApp" or "Zoom").
Find the Right App
Look for the official app - it usually appears first. Check that the developer name matches (e.g., "WhatsApp Inc." for WhatsApp).
Tap "Get"
If it's free, you'll see Get. If it costs money, you'll see the price. Tap the button.
Confirm Your Identity
Use Face ID (look at your phone), Touch ID (fingerprint), or enter your Apple ID password.
Wait for Download
You'll see a circle filling up. When done, Open appears. The app is now on your home screen!
On Android: Using the Play Store
Find the Play Store
Look for the colorful triangle icon (red, blue, green, yellow). Usually on your home screen or in your app drawer.
Search for the App
Tap the search bar at the top. Type the app name you want.
Find the Right App
Look for the official app with lots of downloads and good reviews (4+ stars).
Tap "Install"
If it's free, you'll see Install. If it costs money, you'll see the price.
Accept Permissions (if asked)
Some apps ask to access your camera, contacts, etc. This is normal for apps that need those features.
Wait for Download
When done, tap Open. The app will also appear in your app list.
